HOW OLD IS THE STATUE COLOSSUS OF RHODES?

        " In my research about the Colossus of Rhodes, I found out that It is also one of the Wonders of the Ancient World. "

         
          The Statue of Colossus of Rhodes was made and constructed to celebrate Rhodes' victory over the ruler of Cyprus  who unsuccessfully besieged Rhodes in 305 BC.  Before its destruction, the Colossus of Rhodes stood over 30 meters (107 ft) high, which makes it as one of the tallest statues of the ancient world. It took twelve years to build it.

That is the back view of the Statue of Colossus of Rhodes. Originally, Colossus stood over 2,000 years ago at the Islands of Rhodes. It is located off of the southwestern tip is Asia Minor, where the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean Sea.











         It was first spelled as "Colossos" but then changed it to "Colossus."  Colossus was posed in a traditional Greek manner: nude, wearing a spiky crown, with his eyes shaded from the bright sun with his right hand while holding a cloak over his left hand. and a torch on his right hand.          In addition, the statue of Colossus of Rhodes is look like the Statue of Liberty because of the Modern Statue of Colossus. Their similarity is they bought symbolizes the freedom or it is the celebration of freedom. Colossus stood shining in the sun for 56 years. Sadly, an earthquake hit Rhodes, and the statue collapsed. Huge pieces lay in the harbor for a long time. An Egyptian king decided to pay for reconstruction, but the people of Rhodes refused. They had feared that somehow, they had offended Helios who had used the earthquake to tear it down. Out of all of the wonders, Colossus was the one that stood the least amount of time. It stood for only 56 years, but in brief time won fame throughout the entire civilized world. Now you can see the new and modern statue of Colossus.


       It is also a historical statue of Rhodes. That makes the statue meaningful. This is also one of the famous man kind statue.With its incredible history and classic Greek profile, Colossus of Rhodes is one of mankind’s greatest achievements, inspiring artists and architects to build higher, farther and bigger. Like Colossus reaching for the sky, mankind is unlimited only to its imagination. We can imagine wider as we want and as long as we didn't harm anybody.

WHAT IS THE RELATION OF THE GREEK IN MAUSOLEUM OF HALICARNASSUS?

        What makes Mausoleum of Halicarnassus different from other ancient of the world is that it earned its reputation and a spot within the list. It is closer to the Temple of Artemis and it was the beauty of the tomb rather than its size that fascinated its visitors for centuries. 



        Not only the structure of the Mausoleum, the decorations and statues that adorned the outside at the different levels on the podium and the roof gives the beauty of the Mausoleum. Under and over life-size free-standing statues of people, lions, horses, and other animals, these were tens of life-size as well. 


MAUSOLEUM OF HALICARNASSUS


        Mausoleum of Halicarnassus is also known as Tomb of Mausolus. This structure was designed by the Greek architects Satyros and Pythius of Priene.The Mausoleum also holds a special place in history as it was not dedicated to the gods of Ancient Greece. It is approximately 45 meter in height and each of the four sides was adorned with sculpture reliefs created by each one of four Greek sculptors which are Leochares. Bryaxis, Timotheus and Scopas of Paros. Each was responsible for one side of the mausoleum. 


           The Mausoleum remained in good condition for 16th centuries, until it tumbled in an heavy earthquake in 1304 AD. The monument was almost square unlike the Temple of Artemis. It is 411 feet and was bounded by 36 columns and the top formed a 24 step pyramid surmounted by a four-horse marble chariot. The plan of the structure is rectangular but end up almost square.

         Now, the polished stone and marble blocks of the Mausoleum can be spotted within the walls of the structure and the massive castle still stands in Bodrum. At the site of the Mausoleum itself, only the foundation remains of the once magnificent Wonder. Some of the sculptures survived and are today on display at the British Museum in London. These include fragment of statues and many slabs of the frieze showing the battle between the Greeks and the Amazons.

WHAT IS THE OTHER NAME OF TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS?


     Don't you know that the great Temple of Artemis is one of the Wonders of the Ancient World? Well, if not, then now you will know that it is in the lists of the seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was located near the ancient of Ephesus and it is about 50 kilometers south from the modern port city of Izmir in Turkey. Now this site lies on the edge of the modern town of Selcuk. 

    
          This temple is also known as the Temple of Diana was a temple dedicated to Artemis. The old temple was destroyed by a flood in seventh century. But the people on Ephesus also known as Turkey in current, built the new temple which known as one of the miracles of the ancient in the world around 550 BC. 


     The Cretan architect Chersiphron and his son Metagenes at the expense of Croeses of Lydia, designed the structured about 120 year. 



       Like the temple of that time, the foundation of the temple was rectangular form. It was made of marble with decorated facade overlooking a spacious courtyard. 


       Except for the central or house of the goddess, there were 127 columns in total, aligned orthogonally over the whole platform are.The temple served as both a marketplace and a religious institution. 

   This is the colored picture of the great Temple of Artemis. It was widely represented on Roman coins, and was reported to be four times the size of the Roman Parthenon. Consisting of 127 white marble columns, each 62 feet high, it was 425 feet long and 220 feet wide. Now the Ephesus is known as Turkey. We can find it now in Turkey.


       Since it is already destroyed, the people in Ephesians vowed to rebuild it but at the beginning of the fourth century some of the population became Christian and started to forget about it and finally St. John Chrysostom demolish the remains of the temple which still standing in 401.
 


WHO MADE THE STATUE OF ZEUS AT OLYMPIA?

Where can we find the Statue of Zeus?


     When we see the picture of the Statue of Zeus, the first question that comes in our mind is where can we find this statue? We ask that because we would like to see it in real and take a picture as a souvenir. Well, we can find the Statue of Zeus at Olympia in Greece. It was made by the Greek sculptor Phidias. It is the famous artistic work the world. That is the reason why it belongs to the wonders of the Ancient World.

       In Greek mythology, Zeus is the father of Gods and men. He is also the Gods of the sky, and thunder and the Kings of the Gods. He is the youngest son of Cronus and Rhea and ruled the Olympians of Mount Olympus. He is the father of Aphrodite by Dione. Aphrodite is the Goddess  of love, beauty and sexuality. Although he has a daughter to Dione which is Aphrodite, Zeus real wife and married to Hera which is the Goddess of women and marriage. She's a sister of Zeus. Their children are Ares, Hebe and Hephaestus.

  In our class is English literature, we discuss the Greek Mythology. There we Discovered the different Gods and Goddesses like Zeus and Hera. Like what I have said, Hera is the legal wife of Zeus and the mother of the three Children. Hera was known for the jealous and vengeful nature on Zeus lovers' and offspring. She is also the Goddess of marriage and women.

  If you can see, on the right hand of Zeus is a figure of Victory made form ivory and gold. And on his left hand is the eagle perched on the scepter inlaid with all metals and his sandals was made up of golds like his robe.

WHAT IS THE BEAUTY THAT WE CAN SEE INSIDE OF THE HANGING GARDENS OF BABYLON?

When you heard the word garden, what comes from your mind first?

      When I heard the word garden, I can imagine a beautiful flowers with different kinds, different kinds of plants and butterflies. Well, those are only an examples of what you can see inside the garden. There's a lot of things that you can see inside the garden. Now lets see and tour one of the wonders of the ancient world named Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

What can we see inside the Hanging Garden of Babylon?



     When we enter the Hanging Garden of Babylon, we can see the beautiful nature and creation of our beloved God. Inside the walls were fortresses and temples containing immense statues of solid gold.You can see their the different kinds of flowers and a pond. it looks like a paradise inside and outside. I can say that this is the best place to make a romantic proposal to your love ones. The place is so romantic and refreshing. Refreshing because of the flowers in the surroundings.

Before we look deeper the Hanging Garden of Babylon, let's discover and find out the history of this place.



What is the Hanging Garden of Babylon?

       The Hanging Garden of Babylon is one of the original place lists in the wonders of the ancient world. The people of Babylon sometimes called it the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis in reference to the legendary Queen Semiramis. It was built during the time of king Nebuchadnezzar II because his  homesick wife Amytis of Media who longed and missed her homeland that looks like a garden because of the trees and fragrant plants. Because of the several earthquakes, this garden was destroyed after the 2nd century BC. But the Babylonian rebuilt it because of their love to their kings.

      In addition, the Hanging Garden of Babylon is still in the lists of the Wonders of the Ancient World. The Babylonian were so proud and thankful because their Hanging Garden is in the Wonders of the Ancient World. They didn't built the Hanging Garden just to be in one of the wonders of the Ancient world but because of the wife of the King Nebuchadnezzar II who love gardens.
